Introduction in English
Snellman College (Snellman-korkeakoulu) - situated in Helsinki, the capital city of Finland - is a private college, having about 150 students attending different study programs yearly. The studies are based on a holistic, philosophical concept of man in which spiritual and physical aspects of humanity are both taken into view. The pedagogical thoughts of Johan Vilhelm Snellman and Rudolf Steiner have inspired the forming of the study programs.
Rudolf Steiners pedagogical views have been successfully put to practice in nearly a thousand schools (Waldorf- or Steiner schools) all over the world. Also within adult education Waldorf pedagogy is developing new ways of approaching the question of learning. The problematic returns to the question of the learner - to human being himself and his development. Rudolf Steiner outlined this holistic view of man in his many books and lectures on anthroposophy. The task of the college is to study the possibilities provided by such holistic views and put them to practice in adult and teacher education.
